Aclima and San Leandro 2050 launch SMMI in San Leandro

San Leandro, located in the Bay Area and part of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, is home to a diverse population of about 90,000 residents. The city faces air pollution concerns from nearby highways, industry, and freight corridors, which can especially impact neighborhoods already dealing with environmental and health challenges.

San Leandro 2050, a local nonprofit, has teamed up with Aclima and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to launch a community air monitoring project to address these issues. Using Aclima’s advanced sensors, the project collects detailed, block-by-block data on air quality throughout San Leandro. This provides residents with clear information about local pollution and helps guide actions to improve air quality, focusing on the areas and people most affected. On February 28, 2025, community members and stakeholders met to discuss these air quality challenges and explore solutions.
