Ana Miscolta
Senior Environmental Project ManagerAclima, San Francisco |
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington (the ancestral land of the Duwamish, Muckleshoot, Suquamish, and Stillaguamish peoples), Ana (she/her) studied hazards geography at Macalester College (BA) and Western Washington University (MSc.) with a focus on how our built environments produce disasters that disproportionately harm marginalized communities.
After completing her master’s program, Ana lived and worked in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Ecuador doing community hazards assessments, education, and participatory mapping with a focus on earthquake and landslide risk.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, she moved to California with her young son and worked for CalOES as a hazard mitigation planner, and later on the climate resilience team at the County of San Mateo, where she led community engagement efforts in collaboration with community-based organizations for the South Coast Sea Level Rise Study.
Prior to joining Aclima, Ana led the coalition for Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) for San Mateo County through Thrive Alliance of Nonprofits, organizing the nonprofit sector during disasters, serving as the primary nonprofit liaison to the Department of Emergency Management, and advocating for equitable climate and environmental justice policies. At both County of San Mateo and Thrive, Ana worked closely with community-based organizations advocating for excluded communities in North Fair Oaks, East Palo Alto, Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Pescadero.
Outside of work, Ana is a member of San Francisco’s cooperative housing community and enjoys attending and hosting community events and exploring community decision-making practices.
