Air Quality CoordinatorRise South City, San Francisco |
Amelia is the Air Quality Coordinator at Rise South City, a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental justice and climate resilience in South San Francisco. Amelia works closely with communities in South San Francisco who experience disproportionate amounts of air pollution and exposure to environmental threats. She is working with community members and academic partners (UC Davis & Stanford) to create a hyper-local network of Clarity Air Monitors. Additionally, she is facilitating a partnership with UC Davis to deploy Toxic-Metal Aerosol Real-Time Analysis (TARTA) Instruments in San Bruno, CA. Amelia organizes community Air Monitoring workshops and advocates for greater air monitoring in North San Mateo County.
Amelia recently graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Environmental Earth and Soil Sciences and Biological Sciences. She has consistently been dedicated to enhancing climate resiliency through innovative approaches. She was an intern on the Adapting to Rising Tides team at the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and won first place for her work in developing the Garden Harp, an auto regulatory fog-harvesting system for home gardening.
Amelia’s commitment to The SMMI Project stems from her determination to bridge gaps in air quality data collection and advance public health in historically underrepresented regions. She is looking forward to collaborating with the PEG group and is excited to work with like-minded individuals who bring forth different areas of expertise on air quality and local activism.
