Lanare
Lanare Launches SMMI Project with Aclima and CARB
Lanare is a small, rural, and diverse community in Fresno County, located within the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. Home to a mix of Latino, Black, and immigrant families, Lanare reflects a strong sense of community and resilience shaped by its agricultural roots.
Residents face ongoing air quality challenges due to nearby agricultural operations, unpaved roads, and heavy truck traffic, which contribute to high levels of dust and fine particulate matter. Limited infrastructure and environmental injustices have also impacted public health, with concerns about asthma and other respiratory illnesses, particularly among children and older adults.
In April 2025, Lanare residents, local organizations, and project partners gathered to discuss air quality concerns, launch new community air monitoring efforts, and work together toward a healthier and more equitable future for Lanare.
